To implement the call a meeting of BSNL unions held at New Delhi on 3rd February 2012. K.Jayaprakash Officiating General Secretary and Shri.Balraj ACS Delhi represented FNTO. It was decided to issue a joint circular and organize the strike effectively. Apart from the general demands BSNL unions will insist on protecting the BSNL by government s financial support, avoid disinvestment and retrenchment. Mass meeting is being organized at Chennai, Pune, Patna and Hyderabad. Our secretaries and field leaders may take necessary steps in this regard.

K. Jayprakash
offcg GS
FNTO New Delhi

The Whole truth (Our reply to BSNLEU clarification:

BSNLEU has since issued a clarification on FNTO article about 15th December strike. What happened before, during and after the strike is well known to all the workers. So it is not necessary for us to explain our stand on that count. To sum up it is a bare fact that the strike was total failure and many of their own leaders did not participate according to field report. In certain places, leaders locked the gates and prevented the workers from attending office. It is unfortunate that the local Administration fully cooperated with the recognized union. Executive associations also organized the strike of non-executives but they marked their own attendance as usual.

After great efforts, JAC met the CMD to get only lip service and not settlement on any of the strike demands. Why FNTO should betray the strike when workers have rejected the strike notice issued by JAC and others? We would like to reiterate that announcing a VRS package is prerogative of the management and to choose or reject is the right of the workers. Intervention by service unions is a must only when an unsatisfactory package is thrusted upon the workers. Further stoppage of work should be avoided when the company is making loss and the workers are losing facilities. On the question of retirement age the global trend is to increase it not for reducing. In the absence of recruitment the recognized union should introspect whether their efforts in this direction is necessary at all. FNTO would cooperate for peaceful agitation on genuine demands.

K.Vallinayagam
GS FNTO.

19.01.2012. BSNL ENDORSES DEP ORDER ON I.D.A. Reduction in retirement age is nothing but compulsory retirement for all staff at the age of 58 and the popular sentiment amongst the staff is against such proposal, management may be aware of.

Our union, NUBSNLW (FNTO) had already made it clear that we will not oppose VRS provided it is purely voluntary with a satisfactory package.
